A survey course introducing the students to the
nature of language, language change and development, learning and teaching
theories, language discourse, syntax, semantics, and the social and pedagogical
aspects of language.
Cultural Studies I
This
course is designed to equip Year I English major students for a wider knowledge
on current aspects of culture and related issues including definitions,
Asian Landscapes, Traditional Cultural Values of Asia, and The religions of
Asia. This course is meant to be practical and reflective, so that students
can relate and communicate their personal understanding of cultural identities
via various facets. Students will be introduced a way of thinking that will
enable them to function effectively in any cultures, and in particular acquired
experiences dealing with the numerous cultural differences.
Cultural Studies II
This
course is the continuation from the previous series of Cultural Studies I. It
is designed to equip Year II English major students for a wider knowledge on
current aspects of culture and related issues including Families, and
Relationships, Landscapes and Environment, and Agriculture. This course is
meant to be practical and reflective, so that students can relate and
communicate their personal understanding of cultural identities via various
facets. Students will be introduced a way of thinking that will enable them to
function effectively in any cultures, and in particular acquired experiences
dealing with the numerous cultural differences.
Cultural Studies III
Literature Studies III
This
course is especially designed to empower English major students in the arts
of reading and studying literature, with emphasis on the methods of short
stories, Novel, and Poetry. The lead foci of this course are to provide
critical discussions on THE GOOD EARTH by Pearl S. Buck and on THE
PEARL by John Steinbeck, owing to the realities of social, traditional, and
philosophical issues and ideals. To be more specific, this course will not
mainly serve the purposes of verbal translation.
This course is designed specifically for
students of management studies who are preparing to sign up for the latter
courses. The purposes of this course are to enrich students for the language
skills including listening, speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary. For this
semester, six units of this book will be covered, with the addition of extra
reading materials.
English for Finance and Accounting
This
course is for business students who prepare to be working in the field of
finance. The course will cover a wide range of topics and practices the skills
essentials to operating successfully in the financial industry. The 24 units
are designed to build vocabulary, critical thinking skills and communication
skills in students to reach their high potential to reach the demand of uses in
reality. In this semester, unit 1-8 will be taught as pre-requisite course for
the later studies.
Debate is a discipline to prepare students for the world of inevitable confrontation and illusions. Students learn to take precautions regarding thoughts, words, behaviors, habits, characters, and even beliefs. This course aims to enrich higher education students to ponder upon theories, to develop skills in reasoning, and to empower in students the soft skills i.e. motivation, intrapersonal and interpersonal communication, power of belief, leadership, management, visions, and values. Debate is an open slate for practitioners to develop personal charisma, creativity, commitment, and self-esteem to be ready for this challenging, confusing world.
